Cherry Tomatoes

A phytonutrient called lycopene is present in the skin of the tomato. This will actually stop the build-up of pro-inflammatory compounds linked to depression.  

You can plant cherry tomatoes in large containers, and place them in a sunny spot. They’ll produce more fruit than larger varieties if placed in a sunny spot. Cherry tomatoes can take about 2 to 3 months to start bearing fruit.

Swiss Chard

Magnesium, a nutrient essential for the biochemical reactions in the brain, is packed in all types of chard and this will boost your energy levels. Among people diagnosed with clinical depression magnesium deficiency is a common condition.

Chard needs good amount of sunlight. You can easily grow it. Use organic potting soil and plant 2 or 3 pods per pot in a wide enough container. As soon as the leaves appear you can start harvesting.

Black Eyed Peas

When compared to any vegetable black-eyed peas have some of the highest levels of folate. In creating three brain chemicals – dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine – folate plays a key role. When absent, it can make you irritable, forgetful, and unable to sleep.

Black-eyed peas thrive in places where there is an abundance of sunlight. They need lots of sun and water; warm nights and warm days. You can harvest them in a little over three months after planting. You can leave them on the vine until they dry or eat them fresh off the vine.

Sunflowers

The antidepressant phenylalanine is rich in Sunflower seeds. They need a lot of direct sunlight. The flowers start to wilt towards the end of summer, and the seed heads ripen and droop. Soak the seeds overnight in water to eat. After draining the water roast them until crisp.

Oregano

All components – quercitin, caffeic acid, and rosmarinic acid – that combat fatigue, depression, and anxiety are present in Oregano. It is easy to grow like most herbs. They will grow very fast. All you need to do is plant them in large containers and water them regularly.   

Chamomile

Chamomile tea is best for a goodnight’s sleep. It’s rich in stress-reducing quercitin and caffeic acid just like oregano, but it tastes much better in the form of tea. It’s best suited for large containers since it can grow wild and take over your garden. And it needs direct sunlight to grow abundantly.
