7 Things You Should Never Keep in Your Bedroom

Sleep is essential for your overall well-being. So it is of utmost importance. Even if you are eating healthy and exercising regularly, if you are not getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night it would impact you adversely.

 For good sleep you need the right setting. Your bedroom should be a space that lulls you to sleep. It has to be relaxing and cool. And to make your bedroom a cozy haven that induces proper sleep there are certain things that you should never keep in your bedroom.

Here is a checklist of what to avoid for that beauty sleep.

  1. Pets

Pet owners who sleep with their pets wake up at least once a night, and this is a proven fact. So it is better to have a room reserved for your pets instead of allowing them to share your bed. This will ensure an uninterrupted and deep sleep.

  1. Food

Eating sends wrong signals to your brain and even makes it active. Hence avoid eating in your bedroom.

  1. Any work

If you start thinking about your work or planning for the next day lying in bed, the very thought process will make you agitated or nervous and you will find it difficult to fall asleep. So it is always better to leave your work out of the bedroom. Your bedroom is a place to unwind and relax. So keep office tensions out of your bedroom. You can do the planning in the morning.

  1. Phones and all other electronic devices

We know that white and blue light that is emitted from electronic devices stop your brain from discharging melatonin, a small gland in the brain that helps control your sleep. It is hard to fall and stay asleep without it. So keep electronic devices out of your bedroom. At least half an hour before you go to sleep, switch off all electronic devices.

  1. Blue and white light

You must have noticed gyms, offices etc having cool white lights. This is because they keep us awake and make it difficult to fall asleep. So avoid having white and blue light in your bedroom. Instead, use yellow lights or soft, warm lights that would induce sleep. On our circadian rhythms shades of white light have different impacts. Melatonin is suppressed when we are exposed to cool, blue white light.  

  1. Bold feature walls

Single painted wall is no longer in vogue. Instead, paint the room in one single color. You can also use wallpaper but it should be the same pattern in the entire room. This will look more sophisticated and connected.  Choose relaxing colors like white, off white, pale blue or pink. But stay away from busy and vibrant colors like hot pink, orange and red. The colors that you choose for your bedroom should be relaxing and soothing.

  1. Oversized furniture
You will feel restless in an overcrowded space. So avoid too many furniture in your bedroom. Also, avoid furniture that is too big for your space. This will make your bedroom cramped and small. When there is too much clutter it is hard to relax. To make the space feel open and light select a mix of quieter neutrals and a signature piece of furniture.
