4 Tips to Choose The Right Sofa Color

  1. Accent or Neutral?

If you are just starting to decorate your home, start with sofa because it is easy to decorate around it. Use a vibrant luxury fabric if you want your sofa to be a showpiece or use a colorful print fabric to make it the focal point of the room.

The sofa will be playing a supporting role if you are adding it to an already decorated room. And it should match with your interiors. You'll have to decide whether the sofa should play an accent role or should be neutral to go with the existing color palette.

To make a room look larger and to unify the room some designers prefer sofa that matches the wall color. This is a creative idea for a harmonious color scheme. However, in the future it will be difficult to change the wall color if you have a matching sofa.

The best option is to buy a sofa that complements the other decor. That is the reason why most home owners prefer neutral sofa colors.

  1. Dark or Light?

After deciding the sofa color the next step is to decide whether it will be dark or light. The right sofa color depends largely on the floor color. Will your sofa be sitting on a carpet or dark wood flooring? A sofa can darken a room because most fabric absorbs light.

If the floor is dark it is not advisable to put a dark sofa. To make it more visible there is the need to create a visual space between the floor and sofa. To make the sofa color pop and to separate the dark colors use a lighter rug under the front of your sofa. To define the sofa from the floor, use a metal or light wood coffee table.

Not only dark sofas but light-colored sofas have challenges to beat. Wear and staining are the biggest challenge. Consider how the room is being used now before selecting a light or white sofa. If you have dogs or small children it is not wise to put a white sofa in your living room. Slipcovers that are washable are a stylish compromise if you still love the idea of a light sofa.

  1. Which Color Option Is Right for Your Needs?

The next thing to consider is the color. A sofa in a neutral color is a popular choice if you’re not working with a showpiece sofa. It is easy to decorate around neutral sofas.

The fabric of choice includes cream, taupe, gray and beige. Most designers prefer a textured beige sofa fabric over a matte beige sofa fabric as it can appear dull around other colors. For a cool sophisticated and comfortable look, use gray. Neutral sofas are attractive and stylish and can quietly complement your other decor.

  1. How Will You Add Finishing Touches?

Mix and match is the latest trend so there is no need to purchase a matching sofa set. Be more flexible and complement your new sofa with upholstered chairs. Incorporate the sofa’s color in a texture or pattern and there is no need to look for an exact match for the sofa. Instead of a matching seat use a set of chairs.

As a finishing touch use throws and accent pillows. They will bring that pulled-together look with little pops of color.
